ABOUT DR. CHATTHA

 

Dr. Harpreet K. Chattha has a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in clinical psychology and is a registered clinical psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO). She is also a member of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) and the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA). Dr. Chattha has competencies in both clinical and rehabilitation psychology and provides evidence-based psychological services for a range of psychological difficulties. Previously, Dr. Chattha has worked within several hospitals, including Credit Valley Hospital (Trillium Health Partners), Mississauga, the Mood and Anxiety Program (Anxiety Disorders Clinic and Mood Disorders Clinic) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), the Shared Mental Health Care team at The Ottawa Hospital and at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Dr. Chattha has also worked as a faculty member at the University of Guelph-Humber and serves on the Board of Directors and Board Secretary for the Canadian Mental Health Association – Peel Dufferin on which, she has served as chair for several Board committees. She has years of experience and works with a wide variety of clientele. Dr. Chattha is a registered healthcare provider for Blue Cross and works with MVA and work injury/WSIB claimants. She also accepts extended health insurance and those undergoing return-to-work plans. Dr. Chattha welcomes patients from all backgrounds and ethnicities as she operates as a culturally-sensitive clinician.

 

Dr. Chattha provides services for both adolescents and adults within the domains of clinical psychology and rehabilitation psychology. Both evidence-based assessment and therapy is provided for a variety of presenting issues, including social anxiety, panic disorder, depression, generalized anxiety, OCD, phobias, chronic pain, low self-esteem, work stress/life stress (e.g., relationship issues/divorce, bullying, grief/bereavement), eating disorders, co-morbid health issues and trauma/PTSD. She also provides comprehensive psychological assessment (i.e., psychodiagnostic/personality, complex diagnostic clarification).

 

Dr. Chattha offers individual therapy using a cognitive-behavioural framework. This type of therapy is collaborative in nature and is skills-based. Dr. Chattha also has training in other forms of therapy (e.g., interpersonal psychotherapy, integrity-based) and is able to flexibly incorporate other approaches (such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, emotion-focused) depending on the nature of the presenting difficulties experienced by the patient. Therapy with adolescents may or may not involve other family members to support therapeutic efforts. Of course, any effective therapy is first rooted in developing a safe and comfortable therapeutic environment. Dr. Chattha strives to provide this for all of her patients.

 

Practice locations include downtown Brampton as well as at a second location in the North York/Vaughan area. Office locations are also accessible from areas of South Caledon, East Georgetown, North Etobicoke and Woodbridge.
